Born on April 11th, 1966 in the Gölköy District of Ordu, Remzi AKÇİN started primary education in Gölköy and completed the secondary education in Izmit. In 1987, Remzi Akçin received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University. 

Launching his professional career as an Intern Customs Auditor on April 25th, 1988, Remzi Akçin received the professional titles of Customs Auditor and Customs Senior Auditor in 1991 and 1998, respectively.   

Assigned as Head of Department at the Directorate General of Customs on February 29th, 2000, Remzi Akçin became the Acting Deputy Director General on May 30th, 2005 and was further appointed to this post on March 15th, 2006 under the Decree of 2006/7932. 

During his tenure as Deputy Director General of Customs, Remzi Akçin was actively involved in drafting the Customs Act no. 4458 and the relevant Customs Regulation as well as the execution of the projects of “Streamlining of the Customs Laboratories”, “Joint Use of Land Border Gates”, “Joint Use of the Batumi Airport” and “Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Line”. He also spearheaded the implementation of the “Binding Tariff Information” system.

Appointed the Director General of Customs on January 1st, 2011 under the Decree of 2011/64, Remzi Akçin was further assigned to the post of Advisor to the Minister as per Decree no. 640 and in the meantime continued to serve as Acting Director General. Remzi Akçin was reappointed to this post on November 11th, 2011 under the Decree 2011/858.     

Apart from the post of the Director General, Remzi Akçin served as a member of the “Build-Operate-Transfer Board” “Supreme Discipline Board” of the Ministry of Customs and Trade as well as  “Coordination Council of Counter-Financial Crimes” and “Coordination Council of Smuggling Intelligence” (mandatory membership pursuant to the provisions of the relevant legislations) “Advisory Board of the Turkish Accreditation Agency”, “Plenary Assembly of Turkish Standards Institute” and “Assessment Authority for Inward Processing Procedure”. 

Remzi Akçin’s tenure as Director General of Customs ended on October, 3rd 2013 when he was appointed the Deputy Undersecretary of Customs and Trade under the Decree of 2013/636.   

Remzi Akçin holds published articles on customs legislation in several national journals and authored the following printed books: “Customs Procedures and Declaration Regimes in the European Union”, “
Customs procedures with Economic Impacts”, “Annotated Customs Act no. 1615” and “Annotated Customs Act no. 4458. He also spearheaded the publication of the “Directorate General of Customs: From Past to Present” (1909-2012); a painstaking and comprehensive work shedding a light on the deep-rooted history of the Directorate General of Customs in Turkey.  Remzi AKÇİN is married with two children.
