Deputy Minister Çiftci: “The Belt and Road is a win-win project”

Deputy Minister of Customs and Trade Fatih Çiftci attended the high-level international forum on “Belt and Road: Seize the Next Wave of Growth in Eurasia” held in Venice/Italy on 23rd-24th of November 2017.

Deputy Minister of Customs and Trade Fatih Çiftci attended the high-level international forum on “Belt and Road: Seize the Next Wave of Growth in Eurasia” co-organized by  the Italian-based Think-Tank Ambrosetti (The European House) and the China Development Institute in Venice/Italy on 23rd-24th of November 2017.  


The Forum was also attended by the senior authorities, ambassadors, academicians and representatives of various international think-tanks and foreign corporations from Italy, PRC, Azerbaijan and Turkey Delivering a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Conference, Mr. Çiftci expressed Turkey’s unwavering intent to contribute to and actively support the  activities organized within the “Belt and Road Project”. Referring to the capacity and scope of the Project in addressing a total population of 4 billion from over 60 countries, Mr. Çiftci stressed the ultimate goal of the Project as contributing to sustainable development of the Eurasian Region by establishing an integrated transport, energy and trade network. In this manner, Mr. Çiftci also mentioned Turkey’s contribution of 2.6 Billion USD to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) which assumed a substantial role in the financing of the Project. Referring to various infrastructure projects undertaken by Turkey, Mr. Çiftci reminded the MoU concluded with PRC particularly for the growth of the Middle Corridor involving several countries, including Turkey. Stating that the Project has a multi-faceted structure that may help to provide benefits and maximize the cooperation level, Mr. Çiftci added that the Project would eventually be the catalyst for win-win results. In the course of the Conference, Mr. Murat Salim Esenli, Turkey’s Ambassador in Rome also delivered a speech.
