Turkey Takes Up the Presidency of International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN)2017-2018

TURKEY TAKES UP THE PRESIDENCY OF INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER PROTECTION AND ENFORCEMENT NETWORK (ICPEN) 2017-2018

International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) Presidency of Turkey for the 2017-2018 year has started on the 1st of July 2017. The Ministry of Customs and Trade General Directorate for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance takes up the ICPEN Presidency 2017-2018 on behalf of Republic of Turkey. The Turkish Presidency follows Germany’s term as President, which ended on 30 June 2017.
 
ICPEN is a cooperative and collaborative forum of consumer protection authorities that encourages global cooperation aimed at combating fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair trading practices that affect consumers around the world has members from more than 60 economies.
 
Within the scope of the Turkish Presidency of ICPEN 2017-2018, the autumn meeting will be held on the 13-16th of November 2017 in Antalya whereas the spring meeting will be held in April 2018 in Istanbul.
 
On the other hand, ICPEN has relaunched its website www.icpen.org to deliver a better consumer protection worldwide. The new website provides consumers with essential information including how to avoid scams and shop safely online. There are also tips on where to look for help and how to lodge a complaint in cross-border disputes. Importantly, the website provides a secure members area for the sharing of intelligence on emerging misleading, deceptive and fraudulent commercial practices.
 
As the ICPEN presidency transitions to Turkey, the new website will continue to assist global consumer enforcers in the detection, identification and response to illegal conduct affecting consumers transacting across international borders.
