Born in the province of Kayseri on April 26,1967, Mr. Korkmaz received his B.A. from the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University in 1989. After his graduation, he started his professional career as Assistant Investigator in Garanti Bank of Turkey. He was further assigned as Assistant Customs Investigator at the Ministry of Finance of Customs and in 1993, he was assigned as Customs Investigator.

In the year 2000, Mr. Korkmaz received his M.A. degree in Economics at the Northeastern University. Following the completion of his master study, Mr. Korkmaz was assigned the Senior Customs Investigator.  Between 2002 and 2004, he served as Deputy Director General for Customs Enforcement at the Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Customs.

In 2004, he was appointed the Director General for EU and External Affairs at the Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Customs.

Between 2011 and 2013, he served as Advisor to the Minister.  Following this post, he was appointed as the Customs Counselor of the Ministry in Washington in the year 2013.

Between 2005 and 2011, Mr. Korkmaz assumed various missions and responsibilities as the Head of EU Projects for Turkish Customs, Member of the Build-Operate-Transfer Committee of the Turkish Customs Administration, Co-Chair of the EU-Turkey Customs Co-operation Committee.

Mr. Korkmaz has authored several published articles on customs issues. 

He is married with two children.
